Hulk Mark Ruffalo Responds To Martin Scorsese’s 'That’s Not Cinema' Comment Regarding Marvel Films
Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese’s comments on Marvel movies a few weeks ago had hurt a lot of people. He made the headlines after he criticized Marvel films in an interview with Empire Magazine, and also added that while he tried watching the films, he just couldn’t. He had said, “I don’t see them. I tried, you know? But that’s not cinema. Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks. It isn’t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being." Now, Marvel’s Bruce Banner Mark Ruffalo has responded to it and offered a suggestion to the director.

Mark Ruffalo was recently interviewed by Husam Sam Asi from BBC Cinematic for his new movie, Dark Waters, where he said that if the economics of films measure the value of a society, then whoever makes the biggest thing is going to dominate. She suggested we should have a national endowment of the arts that gives money to another kind of cinema and does support another kind of cinema. IndieWire quoted Mark Ruffalo saying “If you’re working in the milieu of ‘I’m going to try and make a movie that has economic success,’ which (Scorsese) does too, by the way, then how can you complain about that system when you’re not on top of it anymore? I would love to see Marty create a national film endowment, and he could do this, that lets young, new talent come in that isn’t just driven by the marketplace but driven by precepts of art. That would be amazing. That’s really the crux of this conversation.” ALSO READ: Nick Fury Samuel L Jackson Reacts To Martin Scorsese’s ‘Marvel Movies Aren’t Cinema’ Comment, Says ‘Everybody Doesn't Like His Stuff Either’

In other news, Samuel L Jackson, who plays Nick Fury in Marvel films, had also reacted to Martin Scorsese’s criticism and told Variety, “That's like saying Bugs Bunny ain't funny. Films are films. Everybody doesn't like his stuff either. We happen to but everybody doesn't.”
